For several years now Peter Veenhuizen had been facing a problem: all the competent and pleasant musicians were unfortunately getting too old for the youth orchestras. His goal was therefore to create an orchestra for students, which would differentiate itself from other existing student orchestras, in the Netherlands. Thus, it is with passion, energy and pleasure that Peter Veenhuizen weekly conducts the Amsterdam Student Orchestra.

Besides, Peter Veenhuizen also conducts a few other orchestras such as: het Jeugdsymphonie-Orkest Amsterdam Noord (JAN), het Jeugdorkest Amsterdam (JA), het Amsterdam Youth Symphony Orchestra (AYSO), het Tussen Orkest Noord (TON) en het Groot Symfonie Orkest (GSO).
